About me} Education,Career and other stuff i feel you should Know

I

am a Nairobi based Kenyan Web designer, cartoonist, illustrator, animator and graphic designer. I have been doing illustrations as long as I can remember and started making money off it when in class five!.
How you ask?, I used to draw comic books and charge 2 Kshs to read, creating illustrated quotes for neighbours as wall hangings etc. Being a good artist has always made my life pleasant save for the times I had to be sent from school to buy a packet of chalk after being caught entertaining classmates on the blackboard and many other similar incidents(yeah..like when I drew the School bully).

I had anticipated to learn art as a subject in High school but the school I was taken to never had art in their curriculum. I later founded an arts club where artist in the school met and exchanged ideas, through this club we were able to get art tutors during after-class hours. We were also able to interact with other schools that studied art though art related functions and club activities.

Education

Now this is the part am not proud of revealing. If you are intend on hiring me on the basis of my academic background may I suggest you don't read further. I have no academic certification besides my High School certificate which by the way I never collected due to school fee balance(now that can afford to pay the balance I can't find the time to go get it). I wanted to study design in college or university but had no funds. I plan on furthering my education but as of now i barely have time for any thing besides work as I work from 6:00am to 9:30 pm.When will Nairobi start working 24 hrs!.

Where did I learn all this things?

Soon after my high school I did a few odd jobs like packing fish in a cold-room as a casual labourer and selling Kerosene to buy drawing equipments, drew comic strips and aggressively marketed myself. I landed a few contracts the major one being in manenoworld a leading bi monthly children magazine and there came my big break.

I later landed a few high profile contract like doing a series of energizer comics, bought a computer and learnt it though tutorials provided with softwares I had to re-invent the wheel severally but the brighter is that I not only learn how to do things but also how not to do them.

When Internet services became affordable I acquired a connection and learnt further using the vast resources available on the internet. For me learning is a continuous process. Though some solutions are provided for free on the Internet I prefer to learn and create something rather than just copy and customize.
